Needless to say, I Can Hear the Mourning Dove is one of my favorite books. There's a lot of suffering in this book, but Bennett's doesn't let it get bogged down with cliches or senseless misery.
Grace's fears and incipient bravery are sensitively portrayed while Luke is much more complex than a casual dismissal of a psychopathic diagnosis would suggest.4/5(5).
I didn't know this when I grabbed it from the "Teen Zone" at the library (they let you in for being young at heart, I guess), but the author of I Can Hear the Mourning Dove is from Normal, IL, just twenty miles down the road from my house.
